Fusion Trend: Pizza for breakfast

Ever had the desire to plop a raw egg on top of a hot pizza? Probably not. But it's delicious. Truly. And it's another example of the fusion trend being driven by the RenGen. Mia Francesca's family of Italian eateries in Chicago has been serving it for years, just not for breakfast. The Big Sur Bakery has made it a breakfast item and it's a hit in Malibu, CA. The New York Times wrote about it. Breakfast pizza is sushi (raw food) meets pop-culture food (pizza) meets breakfast (day part shift). Voila! Breakfast pizza is here, will grow and deserves to. Note: pizza should be very hot! Egg should be very fresh!

My idea of pizza for breakfast is a slice of yesterday's Italian sausage and extra mushroom right out of the refrigerator. For further explanation, see:

What is it about cold pizza for breakfast? I confess, I slip mine into the microwave to take the edge off. Comfort food, I guess.
